Notes on the Contributors

Francine Cardman is Assistant Professor of Church History at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. She received her Ph.D. in Historical Theology with a concentration in Patristics from Yale University in 1974. She is the author of a translation of Augustine’s homily “Our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount” published as The Preaching of Augustine.

James Coriden is the Academic Dean of the Washington Theological Coalition. His licentiate in Theology and doctorate in Canon Law are from the Gregorian University, and he holds a civil law degree from Catholic University. He has published several articles on matters of church discipline and ministry.

John T. Finnegan is on the faculty of Pope John XXIII Seminary in Wes-ton, Massachusetts, and is Visiting Professor at the Weston School of Theology, Cambridge. He is the author of several articles in canon law, and is a past-president of the Canon Law Society of America.

Nadine Foley, O.P., is a member of the Adrian Dominican Congregation. She holds an M.S. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America and an S.T.M. in Scripture from Union Theological Seminary, New York. She has had a wide range of teaching and ministerial experiences, and has contributed to publications on the issue of women’s role in the church.

Hamilton Hess is on the theology faculty at the University of San Francisco. He received a Ph.D. in Patristics from Oxford, and wrote his doctoral dissertation on the Canons of the Council of Sardica (a 343). He has written several articles on church order and authority in the early church.

Edward J. Kilmartin, S.J., is Professor of Liturgy in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. He received an S.T.D. from the Gregorian University, and wrote The Eucharist in the Primitive Church as well as several articles in sacramental theology. He is currently the Executive Director of the Bishops’ Committee for Dialogue with the Orthodox and Other Eastern Churches.

Katherine Meagher, S.C. is a Sister of Charity of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She holds a Master of Commerce degree from Boston University and a doctorate in Canon Law from St. Paul University, Ottawa. She has served as a teacher, an administrator in her congregation, and a notary in the Matrimonial Tribunal of Toronto. She is currently Chancellor at the Diocese of Nelson, British Columbia.

Francis Morrisey, O.M.I., is the Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law at St. Paul University, Ottawa, and the Secretary-Treasurer and past-President of the Canadian Canon Law Society. He holds licentiate degrees in Philosophy and Theology as well as a doctorate in Canon Law. He is the editor of Studia Canonica and has contributed numerous articles on canonical matters to various publications.
