Antonius de Butrio
Antonius de Butrio (1338 – 1408 AD) wrote a Commentarium in Decretales Gregorii IX.
Translation from the latin by John Wijngaards
“The power of the keys was not given to a woman, but to Peter.
For, though the most blessed Virgin Mary is more excellent than all Apostles, yet the keys of the kingdom were not entrusted to her, but to them . . . .
Indeed, it is fitting that woman does not possess the power of the keys because she is not made in the image of God, but only man who is the glory and image of God.
That is why a woman must be subject to man and be as his slave, and not the other way about.”
